Nginx

A web server, reverse proxy and load balancer. We choose it when a project runs on its own servers and must respond reliably during traffic peaks.

WHY WE CHOOSE THIS

A site most often goes down exactly when the most customers arrive. Nginx spreads load across servers and serves static files fast, so a sales peak does not turn into an outage.

WHEN WE CHOOSE THIS TECHNOLOGY
TRIGGER 1

Own servers or a VPS

The project is not on a managed platform, and someone has to be responsible for fast, secure site delivery.

TRIGGER 2

Peak loads

Sales, ad launches or seasonality bring sharp traffic spikes that cannot be lost.

TRIGGER 3

Several services under one domain

The site, API, admin panel and apps have to work together at a single address with HTTPS.

HOW WE APPLY IT
01

Online stores on a VPS

Response caching and compression, so the catalog opens fast even under load.

02

Web apps on Node.js

A reverse proxy in front of the app with TLS, rate limiting and static file serving.

03

Projects with several services

Routing requests to different services by path or subdomain.

04

High-load websites

Load balancing across several application servers.

Frequently asked questions

and answers to them

Ask a question
Do we need Nginx if the site is on hosting?+

It depends on the type of hosting. On managed platforms the provider configures the web server, and you do not need to deal with it. On a VPS or your own servers we configure Nginx, because speed, HTTPS and resilience under load depend on it.

Why Nginx and not Apache?+

It depends on the project. Apache is convenient for classic PHP hosting configured through .htaccess. Nginx handles many simultaneous connections more efficiently and more often sits in front of modern apps as a proxy, so for new projects we usually choose it.

Will Nginx protect us from attacks?+

No, not fully. It lets you limit request rates, close service URLs and set up HTTPS, which filters out some automated attacks. For protection against large-scale DDoS attacks we add a specialized service such as Cloudflare.

Site speed is built in at the server level.

Nginx setup at GVSPACE is part of our infrastructure work for projects on their own servers and VPS. We configure a reverse proxy for applications, HTTPS, caching, compression and load balancing, so the site responds fast and stays up during ad launches or sales. We work with Nginx for online stores, Node.js web apps and services with several components under one domain.
