STOREinUA

STOREinUA is an online store of appliances and electronics with a large product base, complex business logic and integrated services. We rebuilt the platform at the frontend, backend and infrastructure level in two stages: first we replaced the stack while keeping the existing interface, then we integrated the new UX/UI and extra functionality. Throughout, the store kept running and taking orders.

BRIEF

What did the client come with?

The STOREinUA business outgrew the capabilities of its technology platform. The OpenCart site accumulated technical errors, ran slowly and depended on a large number of plugins and third-party integrations. Through PriceMatrix the system received data on roughly 60 thousand products. Further growth needed a new architecture built for over a million SKUs. The main challenge was to completely rebuild the platform without stopping the store.

Problem list

  • An outdated technology base on OpenCart
  • Low speed and accumulated technical bugs
  • Dependence on third-party plugins and integrations
  • Limited ability to scale the catalog
  • Difficulty introducing new functionality
  • The need to migrate without stopping sales

GOALS AND TASKS

Scale the platform without stopping the business

  1. 01

Prepare the system for a new scale

Design an architecture for a catalog of 1M+ products and a load of up to 1 million visits a month.

  2. 02

Replace the technology without stopping sales

Move business logic, data and integrations to a modern stack while keeping the online store running without interruption.

  3. 03

    Create a new shopping experience

Update the UX/UI and improve navigation, search, catalog, product page and checkout, reducing the barriers on the way to an order.

PROCESS

Two stages of transformation. Not a single pause for the business.

Step 1: Finding the business logic under the layers of legacy code

We analyzed the existing platform, catalog, PriceMatrix, search, pricing, checkout, personal account and external integrations. We determined which business logic had to be kept, which components had to be rebuilt and which technology limits could be dropped.

Stage result:

A map of business logic, integrations and requirements for the new architecture.

Step 2: Replacing the technology foundation while keeping the store running

VECTOR IT

Backend and data: we moved business logic to Laravel 11, separated the API and used PostgreSQL for product data and further catalog scaling. Frontend and infrastructure: we rebuilt the frontend on Nuxt 3, Vue 3 and TypeScript with SSR, separated the system's components and built the infrastructure on AWS and DigitalOcean.

VECTOR DESIGN

In parallel we rethought the user journey: from navigation and search to the product page, cart and checkout.

Step 3: Creating a new shopping experience on the ready platform

After the new technology foundation launched, we moved to the second stage, product transformation. We continued building additional backend functionality, implemented new features and gradually integrated the updated UX/UI. So the new architecture, frontend and business logic merged into one product without having to stop the store.

Stage result:

A fully updated e-commerce platform with a new UX/UI and functionality.

RESULT

We rebuilt the technology. We did not stop the business.

STOREinUA got a new technology foundation, independent frontend and backend, a distributed infrastructure and an updated user experience. The architecture is built for a catalog of over a million products, and the staged migration kept the store running throughout the transformation. After the new platform launched, we recorded growth in conversion and key e-commerce metrics: purchase conversion grew from 1.4% to 3%, purchases by 158.95% and total revenue by 170.51%. The updated interface brings catalog, search, product page, comparison, cart, checkout and personal account into one user experience. Purchase and revenue data: GA4, comparing 1–17 January 2025 with 1–17 January 2024. The growth was recorded after the platform launched; other business factors could also have influenced it. We did not just move StoreinUA to a new technology stack. We rebuilt the foundation of a live e-commerce store, kept sales continuous and created a platform ready for the next stage of business growth. From OpenCart and 60K products to a modern architecture for 1M+ SKUs and a 3% conversion rate.
