Progressive Web App
Progressive Web App

On the phone, without an app store

We build a site people install on their phone from the browser. Key actions stay available when the connection is weak.

WHO IT IS FOR
Early stage

An app store release is early

Clients live on their phones, but a separate app is too much for version one: a long release and two platforms to keep.

Growth stage

The mobile site is awkward

People visit from a phone, search for the address every time, and the page fails to open on a weak connection.

Scale stage

Two channels are hard to keep

You have a site and a separate app, updates drift apart, and some clients never install the store version.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
Weak-connection actions: what still works then
Install from the browser: an icon on the phone screen
Phone screens: Figma layouts before the build
Base: Next.js, React and TypeScript
On-device data: saved for the chosen actions
Phone check: scenarios on a weak connection
Handover: code and the list of actions that still work
PROCESS

Clarity Session

We look at which actions a client must finish from the phone on a weak connection. You leave with the scope of version one. No sales pitch.

[ 02 ]14 working days

Prototype

The install path and the weak-connection flow, laid out in Figma. You see the path before code exists.

[ 03 ]scoped per project

Build

We build a site that installs on the phone and check the chosen actions on a weak connection.

[ 04 ]ongoing, monthly cycle

Launch

We open installation, see where people stop, and improve those steps.

Frequently asked questions

and answers

Does a progressive web app replace a mobile app?+

No. People install it from the browser, not from an app store, and it covers return visits and use on a weak connection. A mobile app is the right choice when the product needs deeper access to the phone or a place in the store. Those are different jobs.

Is this the same as a single-page application?+

No. A single-page application is a product interface in one browser window, without page-to-page navigation. A progressive web app is built so the site installs on the phone and keeps working on a limited connection. The point is installation and a weak network, not how screens change.

Will everything work with no connection?+

No. Without a network, only the actions we deliberately put into version one remain. The rest needs a connection. On the Clarity Session we name what must open when the signal is weak, and we do not promise a full copy of the site.

Can this be added to our current site?+

It depends on how the site is built. If installation and weak-connection use can be added without rewriting the site, we do it on the current one. If not, we build that part separately. We say which after looking at the site.
